Tonsillitis – Symptoms , Infection and Treatments

Tonsillitis is generally caused due to the infection by a large amount of different micro-organisms. The tonsillitis may looks like intensely inflamed, swollen, and inflamed as well as exudes white or yellow pus which may be tinged with blood.

General Symptoms of Tonsillitis:

In general the symptoms of the tonsillitis may include the following:

  • Fever,
  • Headache,
  • Some tiredness,
  • Vomiting tendency,
  • Swollen or painful lymph nodes inside the neck,
  • Sore of throat,
  • Difficulty swallowing etc.

Aside from that the infection mononucleosis or glandular fever may cause due to the Epstein-Barr virus, though in younger children the symptoms may be non specific but in elder children they typically have several tonsillitis, which may also include a fever, a rash, lethargy and even jaundiced. Even the infection may last for up to three months also.

Necessary Treatments for Tonsillitis:

Consult with you GP for advice because they can diagnose tonsillitis with the help of a combination of symptoms as well as other physical examination. They may also suggest for some pain relieving syrup and plenty of fluids also. Though, only a third of the cases are generally caused due to bacteria and the antibiotics are usually given particularly if the disease of tonsillitis is served. Also this used to be because of the concern which a streptococcal infection such as rheumatic fever which may develop, but this is too much rare now a days.

Though there are some GP who only suggests antibiotics if a throat shows swab and these bacteria are present, moreover certain antibiotics can even cause for a fine widespread rash if the main cause of that disease is related to the Epstein-Barr virus. This is sorry to say that there is no such cure for Epstein-Barr virus as well as any supportive treatments. Most of the children recover from this just within a few days but some can not, because they get frequent bouts of this disease.
